Steve Jobs “Not Convinced” new Apple TV would be a hit

We are hearing a lot these days concerning Apple’s new Apple TV (iTV).Engadget was the first to speculate about the upcoming new device, suggesting a new name and its complete redesign – both in terms of hardware (a very small set-top box) and software (it should run a modified version of iOS).

In addition we also have read Apple in talks with Fox for 99 cent TV show rental service and that the new device will be unvelied at a press event on September 7 (which happens to be a Tuesday). The new device should come at $99, equipped with an ARM processor and App Store access – the latest reports claim. But the surprising fact is Steve Jobs isn’t really excited about this new Apple TV funda.

Peter Burrows, reporting for Bloomberg:

But that’s not the big video news Apple wants to impart.

Rather, look for CEO Steve Jobs to focus on the ability for customers to watch their favorite TV shows and movies on their iPads, iPhones, and iPod Touches, says a person familiar with the plan.

And Jobs will also show off a new iPod Touch that features a high-resolution screen like the one in the iPhone 4. That’s important, because the company can now say that all of its products are capable of near-HD quality video.

Even with the refresh, Jobs isn’t convinced the new version will be a mainstream hit, says the person familiar with Apple’s plans. Most consumers aren’t ready to cut the cord to their cable company, or put up with the tech-nastics required to stream content from the iTunes collection on their PC to their living room big-screen TV. In other words, it’s a product that at best will delight some of the “hobbyists” that have always been interested in the product.

Steve Jobs who is an ardent believer of Open Innovation never believed in set-top boxes, the Apple TV has always been marked by Apple as a “hobby” and even at D8 conference (a few months ago) Steve said:

Subsidized set-top boxes have squashed innovation because no one wants to pay for separate boxes…ask TiVo, Roku, us, Google in a few months. The set-top box needs to be torn up and redesigned to get people things they way they want them. And there’s no go-to-market strategy for that. With the iPhone, and now the iPad, we could partner with carriers, but television is very balkanized…everything is local

So it’s all started only time can tell how it would turn up.What’s say ?

Though its a good news for some of the customers like  @AndyGent but not all of them are lucky enough to get the case/bumper shipped to their home any sooner  than the late September or even October 9to5MAC reported that some of the owners who have opted for the 3rd party iPhone4 cases are getting such difficulties with the inconsistent shipping date.So it’s recommended  to all our readers who own an  iPhone 4  that they should stick for the apple bumpers to avoid any sorts of delay.

Lenovo coming up with Android tablet – LePad at the end of the year

After Lenovo had started off with releasing its own handset Lephone to compete with the Apple’s iPhone 4 may be now its targeting the iPad as the Chinese company plans on releasing its own tablet PC at the end of the year. The tablet is apparently named as Lepad and will use Android as its platform. This was quoted by Liu Jun, Senior VP and President of Lenovo’s Consumer Business Group. The product’s development comes as Lenovo’s chairman said earlier this month that Apple CEO Steve Jobs hasn’t been focused on the Chinese market. “If Apple were to spend the same effort on the Chinese consumer as we do, (Lenovo) would be in trouble,” Liu Chuanzhi told the Financial Times.

What seems to be the main strategy behind Lenovo is get a hold on the Chinese market with the Lephone and then once that’s achieved move to a wider audience.Lenovo also believes the mobile Internet hardware and services could become 10 to 20 percent of the company’s business over these next five years.Other Chinese companies have also developed their own tablets, with some even billing their devices as imitation iPads. But Lenovo would be one of the larger companies to take on building such a device.

“Lenovo has a strong brand name that resonates with local buyers. That’s something that’s in their favor,” said Bryan Ma, associate vice president for IDC Asia-Pacific, of the company’s plans.IDC also predicts that in 2011, shipments for media tablets will rise to 1 million for both China and Taiwan combined. In 2014, that number is expected to grow to 4 million. But how the tablet market in China will develop still remains to be seen, Ma added.

“There are still questions about what applications are (these tablets) going to be used for. What kind of interest will they attract,” he said.If you see Apple the Cupertino company will start selling its iPad in Hong Kong this Friday and still it has to announce plans to sell the iPad in mainland China.

Apple press conference to be led by Old spice man and not Steve jobs

In a surprise move, Apple has hired “Old Spice Man” Isaiah Mustafa to lead the company’s press conference to address the iPhone issue on Friday i.e today, people with knowledge of the situation have confirmed.Today on the Conversation, ABC’s John Berman goes one-on-one with the Old Spice man himself, actor and former NFL player Isaiah Mustafa, chatting from his shower.”I think the Old Spice campaign is really breaking new ground here,” said marketing expert Michael Fleischner. “Ads have always been a form of entertainment, but now when you add that viral effect it’s really starting to escalate.”

Insiders say Apple CEO Steve Jobs has been captivated by the Old Spice Man’s personalized videos, describing Mustafa as “beautiful” and having “wonderful, magical abs.” Hiring Mustafa for Friday’s event was evidently seen by those within Apple as a compromise between Jobs and the company’s board of directors.“We’ve been trying to get him to do something about this shoddy antenna problem since day one, but he just keeps pouting and refusing to admit anything’s wrong.” explains one source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

The Old Spice Man will appear shirtless via a satellite video connection, insiders say, and will answer questions asked by reporters at the event. He won’t directly acknowledge any design flaw with the new iPhone but will discuss how “real men use the iPhone” and “don’t complain about how they have to hold it.”

iPhone 4 does 720P@ 30 fps HD video

As you might know the  new iPhone 4 HD has a illuminated 5 megapixel sensor at the iPhone rear, equipped with an LED flash and 720p / 30fps video recording. Tap to focus will also be rolled out in the iPhone Quattro, and Steve Jobs is keen to impress on us all that although the megapixel count has grown, the quality of images has apparently improved. That’s what they all say. The added functionality of iMovie won’t come for free, however, with Apple asking a $4.99 tithe for granting access to its more sophisticated video editing options. This is moving things along, to be sure, but why is the upper limit of storage still 32GB? That would be so less i think. A more generous apportionment of memory would’ve gone very nicely indeed with that HD video mode.Check out some screen shots of the same.
