Geohot shows off PS3 new custom firmware

Geohot the famous jailbreaking guru is still hot now coz he says he has just released a custom firmware for PS3.He says  this firmware can be installed WITHOUT having to open up your PS3 and just by restoring a custom generated PUP file. It is also possible that this CFW may work on the PS3 slim too.I hope, it can play backups and it let me play pirate games and mkv files. That would be freaking awesome.Check out the video and quotes.
Here is a video demoing my “custom firmware”. It’s not any sort of version string change; I would have added something showing off the new features of 3.21, but oh wait, there aren’t any.
This can be installed without having to open up your PS3, just by restoring a custom generated PUP file, but only from 3.15 or previous. It’s possible this CFW will also work on the slim to actually *enable* OtherOS; I’ll know when my infectus gets here.
No release date yet, use the proxy hack to play online with 3.15
Note to the people who removed OtherOS, you are potentially turning 100000+ legit users into “hackers.” There was a huge(20x) traffic spike to this blog after the announcement of 3.21.
If I had ads on this site I guess I’d be thanking you.

Firefox 3.7 release dropped

Mozilla has dumped Firefox 3.7 from the release schedule, replacing it with regular features updates for version 3.6 of the browser. As per the plans which was scheduled Mozilla would release Firefox 3.6 and 3.7 over the course of 2009, each bringing small improvements to the browser but a steady stream of setbacks to Firefox 3.6 has rendered this goal unobtainable, forcing Mozilla to rethink its release. As a result, Firefox 3.7 has been dropped and will be replaced with feature updates for Firefox 3.6 that will be rolled out with security updates. This should free up the team to work on the next major release, Firefox 4, slated for the last quarter of 2010, which is expected to follow the same development process.

The first of the updates for Firefox 3.6 will be the separation of plug-in processes – such as Adobe’s Flash – from the browser, which the foundation has been working on as part of its Electrolysis project. A similar technology is used in Google’s Chrome, and prevents a single site from crashing the entire browser. While the strategy of pushing out smaller Firefox releases over the course of the year may have failed, the company maintains that it was an experiment worth trying.

I’m proud of how we challenged ourselves. We learned an awful lot about what slows down our schedule, and that will help us plan future releases, said Mike Beltzner, director of Firefox, in an interview Thursday. There is also talk of another RC after the 3.6 rc 1 due to bugs the developers are looking into. Beltzner declined naming a release date at this time.

Verizon release iPhone Release date in the 3rd quarter of 2010

It is no secret that Verizon customers are waiting out to get their hands on the Apple iPhone, but if you looked at the ads bashing iPhone,  the release date seemed far.But as per new report that suggests that a Verizon iPhone could still be released in 2010.

According to Wired, research firm OTR Global expects to see a Verizon Wireless iPhone in the third quarter of 2010. The firm also claims that Apple are now working on a “worldmode” iPhone, this will then make it compatible to work with the Verizon carrier. This is because Verizon is a CDMA network and the iPhone is only configured to AT&T’s GSM standard.

verizon logo 300x161 Verizon release iPhone Release date in the 3rd quarter of 2010

The original report that AppleInsider received stated that the Verizon iPhone will come with a smaller screen, 2.8-inches rather than the standard 3.5-inches.Rumors are spreading and i don’t know how true is this fact.We know that Apple’s exclusive with AT&T is all set to end in 2010, but we recently assumed that this deal would be extended. Verizon have been working on Apple since the launch of the iPhone to be able to offer the smartphone to its customers.

In other news related to this, AT&T has recently filed a lawsuit and intends to sue Verizon over those recent ads.Who was right here.Post your comments on these.

Update :

Verizon users waiting for new iPhone 4G to hit might have to wait more.According to BroadPoint AmTech analyst Brian Marshall, AT&T has extended its exclusive deal thanks to their bargaining with the iPad.

AT&T had to do something dramatic to get the iPad. [AT&T's negotiated a 50% discount on iPad data plans with Apple] For that pricing, AT&T was able to negotiate a six-month extension on the iPhone exclusive.

Marshall said that Verizon would get the iPhone in 2010. Now he says that a Verizon iPhone won’t happen until 2011
