iPad carrrier not locked in Japan

There were rumors spreading that Japan’s iPad 3G customers wont be able to select their wireless data carrier and would be locked to Softbank Mobile. Finally Apple has commented on the reports and said even though Softbank will offer a 3G data plan for the multimedia tablet in Japan, but users can subscribe to other carrier packages if they take their iPad outside of the country, according to the Wall Street Journal.

When the iPad was launched in January, the company said that models supporting 3G wireless data connections wouldn’t be locked to specific carriers so users would have the freedom to choose the carrier and data plan they want.

In Japan, however, it looks like customers will still be limited to using the plans Softbank offers because NTT DoCoMo (recently backed out of plans to carry the device) won’t be offering any iPad data packages. When traveling outside Japan, users will be free to purchase SIM cards from other carriers so they won’t have to pay expensive roaming charges.

The clarification is also good news for iPad owners traveling to Japan since they can use Softbank’s SIM cards in their tablets, too.

Microsoft to unveil new set of Social networking Phones by April 12

Previously i had posted about Project Pink and after that there was no news regarding that, now according to Wall Street Journal we’ll finally see the official results of that unveiled at a press event this coming Monday, April 12.Project Pink is reportedly releasing a line of mobile phones featuring social networking integrations aimed at a young generation. The “Pink” line will reflect Microsoft’s taking a more hands-on role in developing the hardware side of the mobile spectrum, as opposed to their more typical strategy of handling the software operating system and letting partners design the phones themselves.

Intel Accused of Giving Dell $6 Billion for Exclusivity

The state of New York has filed a lawsuit against Intel Corp. accusing the chip giant of paying billions of dollars to computer makers in order to discourage them from using microprocessors by Advanced Micro Devices(AMD). Dell alone allegedly received $6 billion dollars between 2002 and 2007 and sometimes those payments exceeded Dell’s profits.
The lawsuit alleges Intel paid computer makers, including IBM and HP, to discourage them from utilizing microprocessors produced by Intel’s arch-rival AMD, reports Dow Jones Newswires. For example, as a part of the agreement, Intel compensated below-cost bids against rivals offering AMD-based desktops, servers or workstations by Dell in order to slowdown the increase of AMD’s market share.
Under a secret pact named the “Mother of all Programs”, Intel paid Dell a rebate based on the total cost of central processing units the computer maker bought, the lawsuit claims. The percentage of the rebate could fluctuate, but reached up to 16% as Dell mulled over using AMD processors. Moreover, in one fiscal quarter Intel’s payments constituted 116% of Dell’s reported net income, according to the lawsuit.
Intel has already faced similar lawsuits in Europe, Japan, South Korea and the U.S., therefore, the current accusations hardly change the situation drastically.Dell, HP and Dell declined to comment, but Intel added that it would defend itself. IBM said it would co-operate with the investigation.I donno if this is true or not but these things could happen. What do you feel ?

$350 250GB PS3 hits US on Nov 3rd

Nearly two months after the 120GB PlayStation 3 Slim went on sale in North America, Sony has officially unveiled plans to release a higher-capacity version of the console domestically.Sony Computer Entertainment America used the official PlayStation Blog to announce that it would be releasing a 250GB PS3 Slim in North America on November 3 for a suggested retail price of $349.99.

The larger hard drive-equipped console was released in the UK and Europe on October 1 in a variety of bundles, including one containing the acclaimed PS3-exclusive Infamous. However, despite reports of an Uncharted 2 bundle bearing a North America-only ESRB rating label, so far SCEA has only announced plans for an a la carte version. Japan will be getting a limited-edition 250GB PS3 Slim packed in with Final Fantasy XIII in December.

This would be a surprise to Sony-watchers,as the 250GB PS3 Slim was first revealed in August via a Federal Communications Commission filing. It will be the seventh hardware configuration of the console in the US, following the 120GB, 160GB, 80GB, 40GB, 20GB, and 60GB models released since the platform’s 2006 launch. So who’s buying this ?

Mary Jo foley confirmed with Microsoft confirming MSE will ship on September 29.From a spokesperson: “I can confirm that Microsoft Security Essentials, the company’s highly anticipated no cost consumer security offering, will be released to the public tomorrow, September 29th.” It will be available in 19 markets worldwide, according to the company.

Microsoft is targeting MSE at customers who are unwilling and unable to pay for security software. Company officials have said they believed it was worth offering customers a free product to help thwart security breaches on unprotected Windows PCs that potentially could be used to infect other users’ systems.

On September 29, Microsoft also is holding a Webcast where CEO Steve Ballmer is planning to detail how Microsoft customers can, with less, do more. It’s part of the company’s “New Efficiency” enterprise-focused campaign and is slated to touch on a host of soon-to-be-shipping Microsoft products, including Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010, Forefront, System Center and the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack.

Microsoft Security Essentials, independently certified by West Coast Labs, is backed by the company’s global security response team and is built on the same award-winning core security technology found in the company’s security solutions for businesses. It requires no registration, trials or renewals and will be available for Windows XP SP2 or SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 including Windows XP mode on both x32 and x64 PCs.

Microsoft Security Essentials will be available in eight languages and 19 countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

More information about Microsoft Security Essentials and the product download is available at http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials.
