Dell launches World’s Thinnest Notebook

Dell finally announced its highly-anticipated Adamo XPS notebook, which is currently the world’s thinnest laptop. Measuring just 9.99mm in thickness, Dell Adamo XPS packs in 4GB of memory and relatively powerful fully-fledged dual-core microprocessor. The new system utilizes rather unique engineering solutions in order to enable the thinnest notebook ever.

“Our engineers and designers are breaking new ground and throwing away the old rules with the introduction of Adamo XPS. We think the Adamo XPS will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it,” said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell consumer products.

Dell Adamo XPS is based on Intel Core 2 Duo U9400 (1.40GHz) ultra low voltage processor and a core-logic set with integrated graphics core. The computer is equipped with 4GB PC3-6400 (800MHz) DDR3 memory, 128GB solid-state drive, 13.4” LED display with 720p output capability, 802.11n wireless network adapter, Bluetooth 2.1 adapter and so on. The notebook does not feature any optical drive, however, it has two USB 2.0 ports, audio output and, most importantly, replaceable battery, something that numerous computer makers sacrifice in order to make their computers even thinner. Dell did not unveil from what the case of the Adamo XPS is made.

The world’s thinnest Adamo XPS laptop also has design provides a unique experience. With a swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open. When opened, the body of the Adamo XPS is raised so the keyboard is angled to enhance cooling. But the most unique thing about Adamo XPS is its thickness: just 9.99mm, or about 0.4”, when closed.

The pencil-thin Adamo XPS weighs just over 3 pounds (1.49 kilograms) and measures 13.39” x 10.71”. Dell expects to begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS with Microsoft Windows 7 pre-installed in time for the holidays. The Adamo XPS is priced starting at $1799.Now that’s costly i must say, but looks awesome.

Intel Accused of Giving Dell $6 Billion for Exclusivity

The state of New York has filed a lawsuit against Intel Corp. accusing the chip giant of paying billions of dollars to computer makers in order to discourage them from using microprocessors by Advanced Micro Devices(AMD). Dell alone allegedly received $6 billion dollars between 2002 and 2007 and sometimes those payments exceeded Dell’s profits.
The lawsuit alleges Intel paid computer makers, including IBM and HP, to discourage them from utilizing microprocessors produced by Intel’s arch-rival AMD, reports Dow Jones Newswires. For example, as a part of the agreement, Intel compensated below-cost bids against rivals offering AMD-based desktops, servers or workstations by Dell in order to slowdown the increase of AMD’s market share.
Under a secret pact named the “Mother of all Programs”, Intel paid Dell a rebate based on the total cost of central processing units the computer maker bought, the lawsuit claims. The percentage of the rebate could fluctuate, but reached up to 16% as Dell mulled over using AMD processors. Moreover, in one fiscal quarter Intel’s payments constituted 116% of Dell’s reported net income, according to the lawsuit.
Intel has already faced similar lawsuits in Europe, Japan, South Korea and the U.S., therefore, the current accusations hardly change the situation drastically.Dell, HP and Dell declined to comment, but Intel added that it would defend itself. IBM said it would co-operate with the investigation.I donno if this is true or not but these things could happen. What do you feel ?

Windows 7 pricing to be revealed by Mid June

logo1 150x150 Windows 7 pricing to be revealed by Mid June

According to Neowin, Microsoft plans to reveal the prices of Windows 7 in mid June.As you might now Windows 7 is rumoured to be out by October 23rd as per reports from Acer or to be specific in the holiday season.Paul Thurrot says that the date is October 15th.

According to the NDA schedule on Tech ARP, OEMs are already aware of how much it will cost them to install on new systems and retailers have also been informed of how much the boxed editions will cost them to sell.Dell say that they already have the news about the pricing and also add that the pricing is costlier than Vista.

The schedule details give the announcement date as just a few weeks from now in mid-June.Ars technica had previously said about the leaked pricing list but that news was from a unconfirmed source so that turned false. But if you are a student you should be able to get Windows 7 at a discount or even completely for free.

Windows 7 by October 15th says Thurrott

Paul Thurrott predicts that Windows 7 will be available by October 15th as per the current schedule.I feel this makes sense to me as Acer had said that Windows 7 would be shipped with Acer PC’s by October 23rd.There’s still no official word from Microsoft, but Thurrot’s Windows 7 insight has a solid track record. So,with Microsoft’s next major release just 150 days away, will you be planning a day-one purchase? Maybe not, according to Dell marketing executive Darrel Ward.

Speaking in an interview, Ward suggests that although demand for the multiple editions of Windows 7 is greater than that of previous Microsoft releases, “the ASPs (average selling price) of the operating systems are higher than they were for Vista and XP”.Suggesting that higher prices in tough economic times could be naive on Microsoft’s part, he adds “I can tell you that the licensing tiers at retail are more expensive than they were for Vista”.

Rising prices will also apply to business users with Windows 7 Professional expected to be more costly than Windows Vista Business. But i feel the pricing wont be cheap by any means. It will be costlier than Vista. So it comes as a shock for Windows 7 fanboys as in recession times too the prices of Windows 7 would be high.Till now every one were excited with Windows 7 as RC build was made public for everyone on May 15th,majority found it a superb OS but the pricing point is what makes the users go back.

If the prices go insane high at this recession period then most of the users will switch to pirated versions or torrents. So if Microsoft wants to target users from buying the Windows 7 SKU’s then they may need to consider the prices very seriously.:shock:
