Dell demos Streak running Android 2.1 comes with $299 on contract, $549 without one

In a complete surprising incident Dell did a quick demo of the 5-inch Streak running Android 2.1 (Eclair) in Youtube. The handset, according to Dell, is supposed to get Android 2.2 sometime after launch so we are a bit confused as to why 2.1 is even on the table. We suppose it is a good sign that Dell’s Android team has 2.1 running on this beast, but seriously Dell get Froyo ! What are you waiting for ? Come on Froyo rocks give it to me baby ! As per the reports the device is expected to be at retail price for $299 with a 2-year AT&T contract and $549 full retail.Check out the video after the break.

Dell Streak to be exclusive to O2 uK launching June 4th

Remember Dell Ceo notifing that Dell Steak aka Dell Mini 5 would release next month and they have kept the word and made if official and is launching at the beginning of next month. The UK will be getting the first bite at this cherry, with the rest of Europe following soon thereafter and the US a disappointingly distant third with a launch “later this summer.”

This is Dell’s big foray into the smartphone market.Dell Streak comes with a 5-inch supersized Android handset, housing a 1GHz Snapdragon,a 5 megapixel cam, 16GB of built-in memory (expandable to 48GB via MicroSD) and a customized UI.Curiously, Dell’s opting to market the Streak as “the ultimate portable tablet pc” and would prefer that this device, albeit fully equipped to carry out cellular calls like a phone, not be called a smartphone. This comes equipped with Android 1.6 with an OTA very soon.So you might expect Android 2.2 and Flash 10.1 very soon probably later this year.O2 site has a date set for June 4.So enjoy the pics in the meantime.

Palm up for sale – Bloomberg reports

Bloomberg just reported that Palm is putting itself up for sale and that offers will potentially come in this week. This comes as a shocker as  Palm CEO Jon Rubinstein had plans of turning into profitable venture soon.Bloomberg says that Palm’s already retained Goldman Sachs and Qatalyst Partners to find a buyer, with many of them expressing interest like HTC and Lenovo and Dell’s apparently already taken a pass. Naturally none of these parties commented on this and Engadget seems not to get a reply from palm either.

palm 181x300 Palm up for sale Bloomberg reports

There are quite a few number of companies caught up in the rumor mill who might be buying Palm.Let me give you a short intro.

HTC : This could turn out to be a good deal as they battle it out against Apple by calling its own platform with killer hardware and sofware.
RIM : Except the Blackberry which was been the enterprise favourite nothin much is known what they would come out in the near future.RIM brings the rabid user base, Palm brings the fresh ideas. So chances are less as far as i feel.
Lenovo: One more strong contender for buying the Palm and to showcase its global smartphone presence.Lenovo is stuck here in 2010 without a shred of smartphone credibility outside its native China, and buying Palm would be an awfully quick way to jump-start that effort, which is probably why the company is allegedly sniffing around.
These companies look promising and some more companies like Hp, Microsoft, Google, Apple,Nintendo, Dell, Motorola, Nokia and Sony may or may not buy the Palm.So whom are you guessing ?

Dell launches World’s Thinnest Notebook

Dell finally announced its highly-anticipated Adamo XPS notebook, which is currently the world’s thinnest laptop. Measuring just 9.99mm in thickness, Dell Adamo XPS packs in 4GB of memory and relatively powerful fully-fledged dual-core microprocessor. The new system utilizes rather unique engineering solutions in order to enable the thinnest notebook ever.

“Our engineers and designers are breaking new ground and throwing away the old rules with the introduction of Adamo XPS. We think the Adamo XPS will inspire an emotional connection with anyone who sees it,” said Alex Gruzen, senior vice president of Dell consumer products.

Dell Adamo XPS is based on Intel Core 2 Duo U9400 (1.40GHz) ultra low voltage processor and a core-logic set with integrated graphics core. The computer is equipped with 4GB PC3-6400 (800MHz) DDR3 memory, 128GB solid-state drive, 13.4” LED display with 720p output capability, 802.11n wireless network adapter, Bluetooth 2.1 adapter and so on. The notebook does not feature any optical drive, however, it has two USB 2.0 ports, audio output and, most importantly, replaceable battery, something that numerous computer makers sacrifice in order to make their computers even thinner. Dell did not unveil from what the case of the Adamo XPS is made.

The world’s thinnest Adamo XPS laptop also has design provides a unique experience. With a swipe of a finger, the keyboard appears from under the display as the system is open. When opened, the body of the Adamo XPS is raised so the keyboard is angled to enhance cooling. But the most unique thing about Adamo XPS is its thickness: just 9.99mm, or about 0.4”, when closed.

The pencil-thin Adamo XPS weighs just over 3 pounds (1.49 kilograms) and measures 13.39” x 10.71”. Dell expects to begin taking orders and shipping the Adamo XPS with Microsoft Windows 7 pre-installed in time for the holidays. The Adamo XPS is priced starting at $1799.Now that’s costly i must say, but looks awesome.
