Multi-tasking on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G enabled

In the iPhone 4.0 conference Apple had announced that there wont be any multi tasking support for iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G, but from the tweet from the iPhone dev states that multi tasking can be enabled in iPhone 3G by just changing the switch to true. Now isnt that awesome. You only need to set multitasking = TRUE on the capabilities plist in SB(N82AP.plist). In later tweets he confirmed that it hasn’t been tested on iPhone 3G yet.

In case you want to know what is N82AP.plist, it is one of the two  main files in the system directory which contains all the main functions of the OS which can be tweaked.the maint reason why Apple doesnt want to enable multi tasking functionality is the low amount of RAM.Enthusiasts can try out this in the future.

Speed up sync of iPhone and iPod – BackOff

Backing up data of iPhone and iPod is really one thing to consider and do it on a timely basis but syncing via iTunes could be a pain as it takes time in syncing. The main reason is due to huge portion of the time has been spent to backup iPhone contents into PC. While this automated action could be useful in many cases but it may not necessarily true for certain circumstances. So what is the alternative is BackOff. BackOff provides an extra button option so that users can simply toggle to turn the backup feature on and off depending on situation and preference.

Once installed just launch the application , you would get a very simple interface with a single button allowing users to either turn on or turn off the backup feature.Care should be taken that iTunes will need to be closed before the utility can be used or else a message will be prompted to remind users to do so. After iTunes is closed, clicking on ‘Turn Off’ button on BackOff utility will switch the default backup feature of iTunes to OFF mode once after iTunes has been reopened.

By now, you should notice that your iPhone will be able to synchronize faster than previous by skipping backup activity and eventually able to shorten your time spent purely on data transfer without doing unnecessarily data backup. It hardly consumes less than 1.3MB of your hard disk space.Backoff is compatible to run with both Windows (XP, Vista and Windows 7) and Mac OS X (Tiger and Snow Leopard) with ability to support iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS, iPod Touch as well as potential iPad compatibility in short future.

Nexus gets multi-touch , 3G update

As you know Nexus One offers a blazing fast 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, a gorgeous 480×800 AMOLED 3.7″ display, and runs Google’s Android 2.1 operating system. For all of its pluses, there have been a few niggling issues that have annoyed users right from the start.

There were early reports of 3G connectivity issues with the device on T-Mobile’s network. Users were complaining of the smartphone hopping from 2G to 3G sporadically and in some cases, users were reporting that 3G was not active at all on the phone.

Another problem that bugged users familiar with other popular smart phones like the iPhone and Palm Pre was the lack of multi-touch support. This feature omission was made even more glaring by the fact that Android phones available overseas were being sold with multi-touch enabled.Previously i had posted about how to enable Multi touch for Google Nexus one, and today Google has officially announced it.

Multi touch on NexusOne Nexus gets multi touch , 3G update

Nexus users will now be able to receive an over-the-air (OTA) software update on all phones. This update fixes the 3G connectivity issues, but also adds multi-touch support as well. “Pinch-to-zoom” functionality is now enabled in the Maps, Gallery, and Browser apps. The Google Goggles app has now also been added to the phone along with an updated Maps program (version 3.4).This update includes sync of favorite items with maps.google.com, search suggestions with maps.google.com history and night mode navigation.

In order to access the update, you will receive a message on your phone’s notification bar. Just download the update, wait for it to install, and you should be all set,” read a posting on the Google Nexus One blog. “This update will be rolled out gradually to phones – and most users might not receive the notification until the end of the week. We hope you enjoy these new features and look forward to your feedback.”

Steps to jailbreak iphone 3.1.2 firmware using Pwnage tool 3.1.4
Having Itunes ss the first step to start jailbreaking iphones.Once you have that backup/sync your iPhone with PC so that you can store all settings apps and music first.
Download PwnageTool 3.1.4 and the original iPhone OS 3.1.2 for your version of iPhone and select your device(iphone, ipod touch or 3GS) once you start Pwnage Tool 3.1.4.
Once the current firmware is displayed you would get a screen asking for “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?” Click No and proceed.
Clicking on “Yes” will update your baseband to the latest version which will make your device almost impossible to unlock. Click on “Yes” only if you are on an officially supported carrier like AT&T.
PwnageTool will now create the custom .ipsw file for your iPhone which would be jailbroken.
Next step would be to restore your iPhone to this custom firmware 3.1.2 that you just cooked using PwnageTool 3.1.4 for your iPhone. Click on your phone from the sidebar in iTunes.
Now press and hold left “alt” button (“Shift” button on Windows) on the keyboard and then click on “Restore” (Not “Update” or “Check for Update”) button in the iTunes and then release the “Shift” button.
This will make iTunes prompt you to select the location for your downloaded custom firmware 3.1.2. Select that custom .ipsw file and click on “Open”.
Just wait while iTunes installs the new firmware 3.1.2 on your iPhone. Your iPhone screen at this point will be showing a progress bar indicating installation progress. After the installation is done, iPhone will restart automatically and you should now have a fully jailbroken iPhone 3GS running on firmware 3.1.2.
Once this will be done you can proceed towards unlocking the iphone using ultrasn0w guide what i had posted.
Last but not the least once your done with jailbreaking and unlock then restore the backup file which you had backed up at the start to restore all the settings apps music contacts etc.Thats it enjoy.

Few days back iphone firmware was updated to 3.1.2 and now GeoHotz the Purplera1n fame guy has released the jailbreak solution for iphone 2G,3G,3GS and also iPodTouch.Blackra1n is a tool which can jailbreak  all iPhone’s ,along with iPhone 3GS and even iPod touch’s (iPod touch 2G and 3G) running on firmware version 3.1.2The app is just 600KB.Even the ipt3 is supported, but the ipt3 is tethered. In order to boot it, just rerun blackra1n. blackra1n is a 30 second ALL device 3.1.2 jailbreak. Right now blackra1n is available for windows only and a mac version may be available very soon.

General precaution before you jailbreak using Blackra1n

This is a jailbreak tool and not a unlock tool.Don’t use this if you want to preserve your baseband as this version currently doesn’t have full ipt3 support.Do NOT upgrade to iPhone 3.1.2 yet if you want to keep your unlock as doing so will result in upgrade of your baseband which will make it almost impossible for you to unlock.blackra1n is for those who are on official carrier like AT&T.Ultrasn0w users wait and recommend not to use Blackra1n and wait for a updated version of Pwnage tool to be out for firmware 3.1.2.
