It brought wide praise as well as criticism (as it happens with almost all new launches these days) for its various features and user interface. It was quite a drastic change for a Microsoft product, as the company has decided to move on to more of a web-based and touch-based OS interface platform, from its typical operating System of yester years. There are various features and programs that can be considered as significant when it comes to negotiating the security parameters of this Operating System.

win8-security

Some of the Windows 8 Security parameters are:

  1. One of the most widely discussed features of Windows 8 is the inclusion of Windows Defender with the new operating system. The version of Windows Defender included with Windows 8 is actually a refined version of Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender included with Windows 8 is a good product and does, in fact, provide an upright level of protection, especially when compared against other free anti-malware programs. However, Windows Defender does not contain many of the advanced features and functions of paid-for solutions, such as a high level of protection for threat detection, task scheduling, centralized management and reporting and so on and so forth. As with other free anti-malware programs, support options for Windows Defender are limited.
  2. Some recognizable applications have been completely re-written for the new Windows 8 UI. As a result they may work entirely different, despite looking the same. For example, an application traditionally delivered as an executable could now be completely web-based. This impacts the visibility the existing security and monitoring tools have into these apps.
  3. Windows 8 style UI version of Internet Explorer option. By default in Windows 8 plug-ins are disabled, jamming a major target for exploit kits and Black hole attacks.
  4. Windows 8 UI apps have important differences from regular applications, and the security product should be able to distinguish the two. The security product should correctly flag malevolent or modified Windows 8 UI applications (tampered, modified, invalid license)
  5. Disabling of hard drive encryption hibernation in Windows 8 is a must-have procedure. Hard drive encryption is a cornerstone of data protection. If possible, disable the hibernation option in Windows 8 through group policy, as it doesn’t always work well with encryption.
  6. The “Designed for Windows 8” logo should be carried, as the hardware must be UEFI compliant. This means you the user can take advantage of the secure boot functionality available in Windows 8. Secure boot is designed to ensure whether the pre-OS setting is secure in order to minimize the risk from boot loader attacks.
  7. The Windows 8 app store makes application control increasingly important for both malware prevention and productivity control. While the Windows Store will be secured, record shows that malicious apps are likely to trip through. Disable the use of apps that aren’t relevant to the working.
  8. Make sure to impose the same security levels on Windows RT devices as all others. The user should have the ability to control, track, and remote wipe and encrypt them.
  9. Applications in the Windows Store must list any resources they require. Carefully review these permissions in the details tab as some will grant access by default to the location information, calendar, etc.  The user should still run a full security suite for superior filtering and centralized management and reporting. While Microsoft has included a modest antivirus and firewall, most corporates still require commercial-level security. And of course, all the old security rules also apply with Window 8. It’s still a bad idea to allow automatic log-on.

These are some of the important and high-end Windows 8 Security precautions that must be followed on to make the most of Windows 8 functioning.

Those features are available from Carbonite, but not at the $59 price.

10 Steps for Creating Effective Pricing Landing Pages http://www.tech-mania.com/2013/10-steps-creating-effective-pricing-landing-pages/ http://www.tech-mania.com/2013/10-steps-creating-effective-pricing-landing-pages/#comments Fri, 12 Apr 2013 04:15:32 +0000 Siddanth http://www.tech-mania.com/?p=11366 Your pricing pages should be the top priority when designing your eCommerce website. Once you get your potential customers to your pricing page, you don’t want to drop the ball and lose a sale. One thing to remember is, you are trying to convince someone who is undecided that they should buy your product. You have to think about what their fears and reservations may be about taking the final step to purchase. The main purpose of your price page is to assure the customer that your product is the right choice for them, and in turn have them choose your product for purchase. Here are some tried and true steps to create effective pricing pages.

Pricing Landing Pages

  1. Keep your pricing pages simple. Don’t clutter them up with unnecessary text or information. Make your pricing clear and easy to understand. Most people skim on the internet and don’t take the time to read, so make your pricing stand out.
  2. If you offer a free trail, really play this up. People will be more likely to take advantage of your services if they can test drive them first. Be clear about the terms of your free trial. Will they need to provide a credit card number first, or are you offering a free trial with no obligations?
  3. Reassure the customer that your products and services are worth their money. Testimonials are great tools to let customers know your products and services have value.
  4. Offer comparison features. Let your customers compare similar products so they can decide which ones are best for them. Include features and benefits in the comparisons so that your customers will be reassured when they make their final choice.
  5. Know what concerns your potential customers may have. Make a list of the reasons someone may give for not making a purchase. For example they might decide your product is not really what they needed after all. A 30 day money back guarantee will help calm this fear.
  6. Add videos to your pricing pages. These can be short information how-to videos, or customer testimonials. Use real customers, not actors. People relate to and trust real customers.
  7. Don’t forget this is a global world we live in. Offer different currency options. Show prices in US Dollars and Euros. This will let your customers choose which currency they prefer to use.
  8. Limit choices. This may sound counterproductive to conversions and sales, but if you present too many options many people will be unable to make a decision.
  9. Have a clear call to action. Tell your customers exactly what you want them to do. Don’t leave them guessing, and don’t think they will make the decision to buy without being asked.
  10. Let them know what will happen next after they hit the purchase button. If you’re selling a subscription or service, let them know how they will be able to access it. If you’re selling a product give them an idea of how long it will take for their purchase to be delivered or if they can download it quicker.

Clear and concise pricing pages are the key to conversion optimization and to increase sales. People want to be reassured that if they give you their hard earned money they will receive something of value in return. Use these above ten steps to create effective pricing landing pages and increase sales.
