Download Microsoft Security Essentials Final
I had posted about Microsoft Security Essentials which would be released on September 29th and now the final version is out for download. If you have never tried how this anti malware solution from Microsoft is, give it a try i bet you will like this.
It was also rated one of the best free ware apps for security. It comes with a basic antivirus and antispyware protection and will include lifetime upgrades and updates from Microsoft, however it does not have advanced features like web scanning , phishing protection ,instant messaging protection ,firewall etc.So this is a not a complete alternative to best paid antivirus solutions like Nod32 or Kaspersky. But as long its free why not try and give your views on it. I am using this on my Windows 7.

Final Version of Microsoft Security Essentials shipping tommorow -September 29th
I had posted about the one care antimalware product from Microsoft i.e Microsoft Security Essentials previously termed as Morro and there was news that the final version would be released soon. Now the time has come and Microsoft is set to deliver the final bits to the public. This came into light by the tweet from Network World Editor John Fontana.
Mary Jo foley confirmed with Microsoft confirming MSE will ship on September 29.From a spokesperson: “I can confirm that Microsoft Security Essentials, the company’s highly anticipated no cost consumer security offering, will be released to the public tomorrow, September 29th.” It will be available in 19 markets worldwide, according to the company.
Microsoft is targeting MSE at customers who are unwilling and unable to pay for security software. Company officials have said they believed it was worth offering customers a free product to help thwart security breaches on unprotected Windows PCs that potentially could be used to infect other users’ systems.
On September 29, Microsoft also is holding a Webcast where CEO Steve Ballmer is planning to detail how Microsoft customers can, with less, do more. It’s part of the company’s “New Efficiency” enterprise-focused campaign and is slated to touch on a host of soon-to-be-shipping Microsoft products, including Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Exchange 2010, Forefront, System Center and the Microsoft Desktop Optimization Pack.
Microsoft Security Essentials, independently certified by West Coast Labs, is backed by the company’s global security response team and is built on the same award-winning core security technology found in the company’s security solutions for businesses. It requires no registration, trials or renewals and will be available for Windows XP SP2 or SP3, Windows Vista and Windows 7 including Windows XP mode on both x32 and x64 PCs.
Microsoft Security Essentials will be available in eight languages and 19 countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States.

Microsoft Security Essentials Final Coming Soon

I had blogged about Microsoft Security Essentials Beta and how to get it the next version for it, now the Final version of Microsoft Security Essentials(MSE) would be released pretty soon as per the quote which was sent to the Beta testers of the free one care anti-malware from Microsoft. This is what they had to say,
The final version of Microsoft Security Essentials will be released to the public in the coming weeks.” In the meantime, feel free to give the beta a try, and potentially helping to improve the product.
MSE is going strong and as more and more testers get involved the better for Redmond to stabilize and improve MSE. MSE already has a strong base, with 400,000 testers during the beta release.I am using it on my Windows 7 RTM and i say i am loving it totally.
Remove infected Autorun.inf from USB Drives
In this Geek world, every one uses thumb drives or flash drives for some purpose or the other, either to copy some data or to transfer files with your friend’s hard disk or something of that sort. Now if you transfer files from the net then you are in the risk of getting viruses and spy wares and most common virus which infects pen drives is the Autorun.inf virus. This happens when you double click your drive and the virus gets loaded into your pc.What you do is you scan your drive with a anti virus solution and try to heal the virus, but what you find it doesn’t clean and your pc is still infected.
One solution to this is a App name “Autorun Eater” .This is a tool to remove suspicious Autorun.inf file in the root of your flash drive. It can fix disabled Registry or Folder options or Task Manager too.
You can download Autorun Eater from here.Give me you feedbacks if you like this app or have a alternative app for this.
Microsoft Security Essentials scores on top rankings.
There has been quite a buzz when the Microsoft Security Essentials was launched few days back and was made to be available to only the first 75000 people at the start.Buzz is going good for Microsoft’s one in all anti-virus and anti spyware solution. Why do i say that ? Coz Independent testing firm AV-Test GmbH ran Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7, putting it up against nearly 3,200 common viruses, bot Trojans and worms. Results were tabulated and it scored top on the list.
Andreas Marx one of the managers said
All files were properly detected and treated by the product. That’s good, as several other antivirus scanners are still not able to detect and kill all of these critters yet.None of the clean files were flagged as being malicious.
The scanner works with the locally-installed anti-virus and anti-spyware databases and it doesn’t appear to use ‘in-the-cloud scanning’ methods.AV-Test also examined Security Essential’s anti-root kit skills and its ability to scrub a system of malware it finds with a limited number of samples and found no reasons to complain.
AV-Test also measured Microsoft Security Essentials against a set of in-house false positives to see whether the software mistakenly fingers legitimate files and it had a positive result there too.Security Essentials aka Morro is able to remove found malware very well, but further tests against larger sets of samples are required before they can come to a final conclusion.
Another noted antivirus testing lab, AV-Comparabives.org, said it would formally test Security Essentials in August, and release its results the next month. You can read the review of Morro here. Now there will be some competition between the antivirus giants.Lets see what they come up with.![]()
