Xiaomi has quietly launched the Mi3 in India today, at a price of Rs 14,999. That being said, the phone will only be available from July 15th.
As you might already know, the Xiaomi Mi3 is the company’s current flagship smartphone, boasting a 5 inch 1080p IPS display, a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, a 13-megapixel rear camera (with dual-LED flash), 2 megapixel front-facing camera, and a 3050 mAh battery powering all of it.
In terms of looks too, the Mi 3 will stand out from the rest of the low-cost crowd thanks to its slim 8.1mm body and the magnesium alloy frame supposedly coated in “three layers of thermal graphite film.” In addition, Xiaomi claims 120 laser-cut cutouts for the speaker grille and a metal-reinforced USB port.
As for the software side of things, the Mi 3 comes with MIUI 5 atop Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, with an update to Android 4.4 KitKat imminent. By aggressively pricing the Mi 3, Xiaomi has the potential to carve out a niche for itself in the Indian market.
Xiaomi is also bringing to market some accessories. The Power Bank in 5,200mAh and 10,400mAh models will be the first to arrive, though pricing and availability are unknown.
All that and it measures just 8.1mm thin, and is 145 grams light, and runs 4.3 optimized with MIUI version 5. Great pricing for sure, hopefully we’ll be able to get our hands on one to tell you if it’s really worth the price-tag.
