Engadget reports via WSJ that ABC and CBS are hard at work adapting episodes of their TV shows for the iPad, which will be streaming for free once the iPad launches this Saturday.ABC would use app tipped for April 3rd giving iPad owners WiFi access to full episodes of shows whereas CBS will stream over the web through the iPad’s Safari browser.CBS has promised episodes of Survivor on day one, along with promos for other shows including the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.

Some CBS shows will also be available on day one via the iPad-compatible TV.com iPhone app. NBC also offers some of its shows on an iPhone-friendly version of NBC.com that will presumably work on the iPad as well.Also Hulu app is also rumored to be in the process with a subscription model.Even Encoding.com plans to optimize video for iPad.

There are 1350(+ counting) approved iPad apps or take a look at the video for the 700 of the apps.It seems like the apps are coming straight from Apple’s app database since AppShopper is also showing Netflix and ABC Player iPad apps.
