Sony has announced officially that the PlayStation 3 will support the new 3D Blu-ray specification that was finalized by the Blu-ray Disc Association. The new specification would require a 3D-capable display (television) device in order to deliver the 3D images that are necessary to enjoy the 3D support offered by this new specification.By 3D-capable display (television)i mean whether it is a LCD, LED or Plasma, the software will also have to able to render 3D support regardless if it is a movie or game. The support on the PlayStation 3 will come as part of an upcoming firmware update, but no specific details on when to expect the update have been announced. It has been suggested, however, that more details are likely during the company’s announcements during CES in January.

Sony is banking heavily that the 3D technology will be the next big thing and it is no surprise that Sony is getting out in front of this technology. The new Blu-ray format really just adds the 3D support to the existing specification but if you don’t have a 3D-capable display device, you will still get the standard 2D images.

The recently released title “Avatar: The Game” supports the 3D technology for those that are able to take advantage of it. It uses the same 3D technology that was used to create the movie. The title will go down in history as the first of what is being called the new wave of 3D technology. According to sources, several developers have 3D titles in development, but so far very little in the way of actual details for these upcoming gaming titles has emerged. The movie’s graphics were totally good you ll just love it.If you haven’t watched it don’t miss it.
