Few days back i had blogged about Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) aka Morro.Yesterday Microsoft made it available to public. Now any one can download the Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0 Beta via the Microsoft’s page for MSE, a link also to Microsoft Connect is provided from which users can choose to fill a short survey on some questions including Seven and some security based questions.
Once done you can download MSE for Windows Seven and Vista for both X86 and X64 versions along with XP too.Its just a 4.7 MB file and its light on resources and no conflict as such with Windows Defender and Firewall.Haven’t tested with Nod32 4.0 yet but will keep updated.
A malware researcher just posted a video on You tube of MSE 1.0 Beta.Due to too much server traffic you might get a error on the Microsoft link as well as Connect then here is a alternate link via Softpedia.MSE is specifically designed for individual consumer PC use using the smallest resource footprint possible to provide complete anti-malware protection and will include a new protection technology, as part of the Microsoft anti-malware engine, called Dynamic Signature Service (DSS).
- For Windows XP, a PC with a CPU with clock speed of at least 500MHz and at least 256MB of RAM.
- For Windows Vista and Windows 7, a PC with a CPU with clock speed of at least 1.0GHz and at least 1GB of RAM.
- VGA (display): 800×600 or higher.
- Storage: 140MB of available hard-disk space.
- An Internet connection for installation and to download the latest virus and spyware definitions.
- IE 6 and Firefox 2.0 above versions.
This Beta build (1.0.1407.00) is lower than that of the leaked build via torrents (1.0.2140.0), so users of the leak could be advised to keep their current version and those who don’t have it yet, i recommend to download from the official sites and not via torrents.A small FAQ can be found at WindowsClub.
Additional support can be found at MSE site. Its available for only first 75,000 users but Microsoft can increase the limit if required. So why wait, go and get it before its gone.I will keep you guys updated with compatibility issues.
