
On Tuesday Microsoft released a total of 13 bulletins and 34 vulnerabilities, as well as the first critical update for Windows 7. The update is to patch Internet Explorer 8 which ships with Windows 7 , in which Microsoft warned that there were 3 crucial vulnerabilities.What fixes are being included ?
This update addresses three privately reported vulnerabilities and one publicly disclosed vulnerability. The security update addresses these vulnerabilities by modifying the way that Internet Explorer processes data stream headers, validates arguments, and handles objects in memory.
These security holes could allow a hacker to gain access and take over vulnerable computers by tricking users into visiting a malicious webpage. These security holes are in Internet Explorer 5,6,7 aswell as in IE8, there is also one security flaw in Silver light. Microsoft have released a patch package through Windows Update and users with automatic updates turned on, will have the patches delivered automatically.Microsoft has rated this update as critical and recommends all users update immediately.
This security update is rated Critical for all supported releases of Internet Explorer: Internet Explorer 5.01, Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1, Internet Explorer 7, and Internet Explorer 8.
In addition to these Microsoft also released patches for the Windows GDI ( Graphics Device Interface ) which could allow an attacker to take control of the users PC, if they viewed an image file using affected software or browsed a malicious web site.Similiar patches were also released for Windows Runtime.Microsoft recommends to update your copy of Windows 7 at the earliest.
